Week of Nov. 20 - 24

Classroom: Ositos A & B

Blog Theme: My community and I

Weekly Theme: Our Neighborhood

Week: From 11/20/2017 to 11/24/2017

What we are learning?

Dear Parents,

We hope you are having a beautiful week.  This is our last week of learning about “My Community and I”. We will review everything we have learnt about community helpers, community places and means of transportation. We will also discuss a new weekly subtopic called “Our Neighborhood”. Children will explore their surroundings: homes, fire house, police station, restaurants, movie theater, church, school, playground and parks and ask questions to their parents about their neighborhood. They will observe the kinds of stores in their area such as groceries, dry cleaners, barber shops, clothing boutiques, bookstores and toy stores by touring with their parents and they will be able to show pictures to their classmates. Children will be able to distinguish and compare similarities and differences. And lastly children will be encouraged to be kind, nice and considerate to their neighbors and show respect to them.

  • On Monday, children will identify places that are located in their neighborhood.

  • On Tuesday, children will explore how to be good neighbors.

  • On Wednesday, children will participate in our weekly review of what we learnt during the week. They will be able to ask questions and discuss about what they enjoyed learning this week.

Through practical actions we keep enlightening kids about importance of being part of a neighborhood. We have scheduled exciting activities related to this theme so children can continue learning through fun experiences.  Each one of these activities will help to continue strengthening gross and fine motor skills, language and socio-emotional skills. Some of the activities children will enjoy this week are as follows:

  • Children will create our Spanish for fun Neighborhood using recycled materials. It will have buildings, stores, roads and many more locations.

  • Children will prepare a chart showing how we should treat each other in our neighborhood.

  • Children will participate in a roleplay called “a day in our neighborhood”.

We will be also learning interesting facts about Thanksgiving and we will rehearse for our Thanksgiving celebration. Ositos A will have a performance and Ositos B will sing a song. Both classrooms will create a beautiful craft for this special holiday as well.

Thank you for letting us play such an important role in your child’s life and we hope you have a great weekend.

Year-Round Activities
Student of the Week & Travelling Pet

Please make sure to sign up your child for these wonderful activities as these 2 are the children favorites! Both activities allow every child to make and share memories with their classmates.

For the student of the week activity, every week a child is given a set week that he/she are the student of the week. On Monday of their week the student of the week should bring a poster and a book created with family pictures, favorite books, sports/hobbies, animals or anything they are interested in. Also, on their week parents and the student of the week may pick a day to present the poster and the book to the class. The student of the week may also bring favorite toys and books to school so they can share with classmates.

As for the Traveling Pet activity, the classroom pet will spend a whole week with the child and family. During that week, parents and the child will have fun together with a new member of the family while providing love and care to the pet. Our pet loves to read at night, go to the park, visit museums, give hugs and kisses! However, the pet does not like taking a bath as he can get sick. Parents and child will enjoy bonding time and making new memories and the child will be very excited to share all the memories with his/her classmates. In their week parents and the child should bring to school a collage of pictures and a brief description of what they did with the pet. Parent should make sure to place the collage inside the travelling pet bag.

Sign up to both activities today! Sign-up sheets are available at the entrance of the classroom.

Friendly Reminders

  • Remember your child to wash his/her hands when entering the classroom and before leaving the school. This is the best way to prevent illnesses.

  • Make sure to bring your child on time so he/she can participate in circle time. This activity starts at 8:45am and will stimulate and strengthen skills in all areas.

  • Read your child’s journal, blogs and Friday Newsletter. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us in case you have any comment or any question about your child’s development or any notes/comments made in your child’s journal.

  • Make sure to have enough pull-ups or diapers in the cubby for the day, if your child has not been potty-trained yet.

  • Label all bottles and food that you bring to preschool for your child with your child’s name and the date it was prepared and drop it in the kitchen. Please keep in mind we are a nut free environment.
