Classroom: Ositos

Blog Theme: Let´s Celebrate

Weekly Theme: The Polar Express & Santa Claus Visit

Week: December 16th, 2019 to December 20th, 2019

What are we learning?
Dear Parents,

We hope you are having a wonderful week. The Christmas spirit is alive in every classroom at Sff! and as part of our tradition, we will have Santa Claus in our center. This week children will continue learning about Christmas, in particular, about Christmas stories. We will talk about the Polar Express, Rudolph and the elves.

Through practical actions we keep enlightening kids about Christmas stories. We have scheduled exciting activities related to this theme, so children can continue learning through fun experiences. Each one of them will help to continue strengthening gross and fine motor skills, language and socio-emotional skills. Below you can find a summary of all activities during the week:

·         The Polar Express & Santa Claus

o    Learn about Santa, listen to Santa stories and the Polar Express. Children will discover the following:

§  Where does he come from?

§  Where does he live?

§  Write a story to Santa.

·         The Reindeers

·         Christmas Time

o    Share with classmates what Christmas gift would you like to give your family and friends.

o    Create a graphic to measure who likes Santa, Rudolph or the Elves and write down the count next to the image.

o    Write a letter to Santa.

·         Weekly Review & Special Project

o    Review what we learn during the week, what our favorite topic was and what else we would like to learn.

o    Participate in our festivity “The Ugly Sweater Party” or “The Pajama Party.” Children will enjoy a movie and a snack during the movie.

As Santa’s is visiting us this week, we would appreciate if you can become part of our elf team and drop a present (book) under the box that is located under our tree. This present will be given to the kids when Santa comes. Please make sure to bring the book/present by Monday morning, December 16th, 2018.

Thank you for letting us play such an essential role in your child’s life and we hope you have a great weekend.

Homework

Children are learning all the time; during walks, car rides, on family outings, and while they play. As parents and educators, we should encourage and support these explorations and games in a creative manner. We consider some examples of the best daily tasks that we can do at home with our kids are as follows:

·         Reading one book from front to back.

·         Stimulate them to express their feelings, emotions, and thought while having a dialogue or during family conversations.

·         Teach kids responsibility while asking them to complete age-appropriate chores or household tasks.

In addition to these suggestions, Spanish for fun! will provide weekly homework assignments to practice skills learned in the classroom. To complete homework assignments is optional. Below are the homework assignment instructions if you decide to work on them with your child:

·         Homework will be placed in wall pocket envelopes or in your child’s cubby every Wednesday. Please feel free to collect them every Wednesday.

·         Review the enclosed assignments and select one, two, or more worksheets and have your child work on them. Complete all assignment worksheets is optional.

·         Return completed assignments by Tuesday of the following week.

If you have any questions regarding homework assignments, please let us know.

Year-Round Activities
Student of the Week & Traveling Pet

Please make sure to sign up your child for these beautiful activities as these 2 are the children's favorites! These activities allow every child to create and share memories with their classmates. Student of the week and Traveling Pet will run from January to the end of the School Year.

As you know, every week, a child is given a set week that he/she is the student of the week. On Monday of their week, the student of the week should bring a poster and a book created with family pictures, favorite books, sports, hobbies, animals and other interests. Parents will pick a day to present a banner to the classroom. The student of the week may also bring favorite toys and books to school so they can share it with classmates.

As for the Traveling Pet activity, the classroom pet will spend a whole week with the child and family. During that week, parents and the child will have fun together with a new member of the family while providing love and care to the pet. Our pet loves to read at night, go to the park, visit museums, give hugs and kisses! However, the pet does not like taking a bath as he can get sick. Parents and children will enjoy bonding time and making new memories, and the child will be very excited to share all the memories with his/her classmates. In their week, parents and the child should bring a collage of pictures and a written paper containing a brief description of what they did with the pet. Parents should make sure to place the collage inside the traveling pet bag.

Sign up for both activities today! Sign-up sheets are available at the entrance of the classroom.

Friendly Reminders

·         Remember your child to wash his/her hands when entering the classroom and before leaving school. This is the best way to prevent illnesses.

·         Make sure to bring your child on time so he/she can participate in circle time.

·         Avoid bringing your child with items that can cause distractions such as toys, necklaces, bracelets, and watches.

·         Make sure that your child has always an extra set of clothing in his/her cubby.

·         Bring appropriate clothing based on weather and label them with your child's name before placing them in his/her cubby.

·         Remove clothing from the cubby and leave one set of clothing and a blanket for nap time.

·         Take the blanket home on Fridays for laundry and bring it back on Monday.

·         Have enough pull-ups, diapers, wipes and rash ointment in the cubby for the day, if your child has not been potty trained yet.

·         Fill out an administration or authorization form specifying when to use rash ointment.

o    Supply ointments for your child.

o    Label ointments with your child's name and store them in a fabric tote bag.

·         Label food that you bring to preschool.

o    Write your child's name and date.

o    Place food or lunch boxes in the kitchen. Make sure to put ice packs inside the lunch box.

o    Please keep in mind we are a nut-free environment.

·         Do not bring your child to school if the child has a fever of over 101F or any contagious conditions.

¿Qué es la navidad?
Pregunté a mamá
Un día muy dulce como el mazapán
¿Qué es la navidad?
Pregunté a papá
Un día muy lindo donde aprendemos a dar
¿Qué es la navidad?
Pregunté a mi abuela
