Weekly Theme: Parts of the Plants

Week: From 04/01/2019 to 04/05/2019

What we are learning?

Dear Parents,

We hope you all have a wonderful week. We are excited to communicate that we are starting a new theme “The Plants”. For the next 4 weeks children will knowledge of their natural environment, understand how plants develop and grow, identify the parts of the plant, participate in activities for the care of the environment and nature and comprehend the significance of plants for our environment.

This week children will be learning about the parts of the plants. Children will interact with nature and will have opportunities to explore, question, and document similarities and differences among plant parts. They will be able to identify and describe the basic parts of a plant which are the root, the stem, the flower and leaves and the function of each plant part. They will also explore the life cycle of plants.

We have scheduled exciting activities related to this theme, so children can continue acquiring knowledge through fun experiences.  Each one of these activities will help to continue strengthening gross and fine motor skills, language and socio-emotional skills. One of the most interesting projects related to this theme will be our project “Green World”. Children will be able to participate in this wonderful hands-on experience related to germination, crop, and harvesting. Some other activities children will enjoy are as follows:

Monday

Exploration of the Environment.

Description of Plants.

Parts of the Plants I: Roots, stem and leaves.

Tuesday

Wednesday

Year-Round Activities
Student of the Week & Travelling Pet

Please make sure to sign up your child for these wonderful activities as these 2 are the children favorites! Both activities allow every child to make and share memories with their classmates.

For the student of the week activity, every week a child is given a set week that he/she are the student of the week. On Monday of their week the student of the week should bring a poster and a book created with family pictures, favorite books, sports/hobbies, animals or anything they are interested in. Also, on their week parents and the student of the week may pick a day to present the poster and the book to the class. The student of the week may also bring favorite toys and books to school so they can share with classmates.

As for the Traveling Pet activity, the classroom pet will spend a whole week with the child and family. During that week, parents and the child will have fun together with a new member of the family while providing love and care to the pet. Our pet loves to read at night, go to the park, visit museums, give hugs and kisses! However, the pet does not like taking a bath as he can get sick. Parents and child will enjoy bonding time and making new memories and the child will be very excited to share all the memories with his/her classmates. In their week parents and the child should bring to school a collage of pictures and a brief description of what they did with the pet. Parent should make sure to place the collage inside the travelling pet bag.

Sign up to both activities today! Sign-up sheets are available at the entrance of the classroom.

Friendly Reminders

Remember your child to wash his/her hands when entering the classroom and before leaving the school. This is the best way to prevent illnesses.

Make sure to bring your child on time so he/she can participate in circle time. This activity starts at 8:45am and will stimulate and strengthen skills in all areas.

Read your child’s journal, blogs and Friday Newsletter. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us in case you have any comment or any question about your child’s development or any notes/comments made in your child’s journal.

Avoid bringing your child with items that can cause distraction such as toys, necklaces, bracelets, watches, etc. This is needed to help him/her concentrate in the scheduled activities at school.

Label all your child’s clothing and items and make sure that your child has extra set of clothing that is appropriate to weather in his/her cubby.

Make sure to remove clothing from the cubby and just leave one set of clothing and a blanket for nap time.

Make sure to take the blanket home on Fridays for laundry and bring it back on Monday.

Make sure to have enough pull-ups or diapers in the cubby for the day, if your child has not been potty-trained yet.

Label all bottles and food that you bring to preschool for your child with your child’s name and the date it was prepared and drop it in the kitchen. Please keep in mind we are a nut free environment.

Take home the homework blue folder in your child’s cubby and take one or 2 paper sheets from the container that are next to the entrance of the classroom. Homework should be returned by Tuesday and do not forget to bring the homework folder back on Monday.

Do not bring your child to school if the child has a fever of over 101F or any contagious conditions.

Song of the Week

Rhymes

Rhyme # 1
Mi plantita es muy bonita
Yo la tengo que regar
Cada día crece un poco
Por la luz que el sol le da.

Rhyme # 2
Semillita, semillita
Que en la tierra se cayó
Dormidita, dormidita
Rapidito se quedo
Semillita, semillita
Que con agua y luz del sol
Te convertiste en una plantita
Con muchas hojas y una flor.

Riddles

Verde soy
Huelo muy bien
Crezco con flores, plantas
Y árboles también
Las hojas
